The Senate Judiciary Committee will conduct its Executive Business Meeting on the proposed Criminal Antitrust Anti-Retaliation Act of 2013 on October 31.

The legislation, introduced by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on January 22, would amend the Antitrust Criminal Penalty Enhancement and Reform Act of 2004 to provide anti-retaliation protections for antitrust whistleblowers. It was co-sponsored by Senator Chuck Grassley (Iowa), ranking member of the Judiciary Committee. The proposal is intended to protect from discrimination employees, contractors, sub-contractors, or agents who report antitrust violations to the federal government. A whistleblower could be entitled to compensation, including reinstatement, back pay, and litigation costs, expert witness fees, and reasonable attorney’s fees.

The Executive Business Meeting will now occur before the full Judiciary Committee at 10:00 a.m. on October 31 in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
