The Canada Competition Bureau will not oppose the proposed amalgamation of Modular Space Corporation (ModSpace) and Williams Scotsman International Inc. (Williams Scotsman), the Bureau announced.

ModSpace and Williams Scotsman are two of the largest Canadian companies in the business of leasing modular units—including office trailers, lavatories, and lunch rooms—that are typically rented on a project-specific basis by commercial and industrial customers.

The Bureau concluded that the transaction is unlikely to result in a substantial lessening or prevention of competition of the rental of modular units in any relevant market in Canada. Consequently, the Bureau is issuing a No-Action Letter to the parties, confirming that the Bureau will not, at this time, challenge the proposed transaction before the Competition Tribunal under the merger provisions of the Competition Act.
