The workshop will examine recent developments related to health care provider organization and payment models that may affect competition in the provision of health care services. A detailed look at the various topics to be covered can be found in the Federal Register Notice, but some of the main topics will include early observations regarding accountable care organizations, early observations regarding health insurance exchanges, alternatives to traditional fee-for-service payment models, trends in provider consolidation, and trends in provider network and benefit design strategies.
The FTC and DOJ also posted biographies of the many speakers who will appear at the workshop. Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, will give the opening remarks. Other speakers include FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez and Assistant Attorney General William Baer.
The workshop will conclude with a summation roundtable discussing antitrust perspectives on evolving provider and payment models. Public comments will be accepted through April 30, 2015. Registration information for the workshop is available on the event web page. While registration is not required, it is strongly recommended.
