A former employee of fuel supply service company Aviation Fuel International, Inc. (AFI) was placed on probation Tuesday, for a period of three years, after pleading guilty to a one-count felony charge of obstructing justice. Perez previously admitted to the federal district court in Kansas City, Missouri, that he knowingly destroyed files from his computer regarding his employment at AFI, and that he intended to impede a Department of Justice investigation into allegations that AFI and its employees paid illegal kickbacks to the former vice president of ground operations for Ryan International Airlines (U.S. v. Perez, Criminal No. 14-00041-01-CR-W-DW).

In addition to probation, the court imposed a $10,000 fine on Perez. According to the plea agreement, Perez could have faced a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, an order of restitution.

Former owner and operator of AFI, Sean E. Wagner, was previously sentenced to serve 50 months in prison and to pay over $200,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud.
