The Canada Competition Bureau and the New Zealand Commerce Commission have entered into a new competition cooperation arrangement that will further enhance the nations’ ability to cooperate on cross-border competition matters, the Competition Bureau announced yesterday.

This is the second competition cooperation arrangement signed between the Canada and New Zealand. In October of 2000, the Bureau signed a competition cooperation arrangement with the New Zealand Competition Commission and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The new agreement—signed by John Pecman, Canada Commissioner of Competition, and Dr. Mark Berry, Chairman of the New Zealand Competition Commission—will further enhance collaboration in terms of information sharing and the provision of investigative assistance.

The Bureau has negotiated cooperation instruments with 13 jurisdictions—Australia, Brazil, Chile, the European Union, India, Japan, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
