Canada Commissioner of Competition John Pecman led a Competition Bureau delegation to Beijing to meet with senior officials of the three Chinese competition authorities January 13-17, according to the Competition Bureau.

The topics discussed at meetings with Chinese authorities included merger review, cartel conduct, abuse of dominance, and consumer protection, according to a January 16 announcement. Such bilateral meetings facilitate communication, collaboration, and trust between competition agencies and reflect a commitment to increased international cooperation and exchange of best practices, the Bureau noted.

“This visit was an important step in building a relationship between the Competition Bureau and its Chinese counterparts,” said Pecman. “The Bureau gained valuable insight into China’s competition policy and law enforcement, and we look forward to further strengthening this partnership in the future.”
