The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) is requesting entries from economists and legal practitioners for its 2014 Antitrust Enforcement Awards. There are three award categories this year, including: (1) outstanding antitrust litigation achievement in private law practice; (2) outstanding antitrust litigation achievement by a young lawyer; and (3) outstanding antitrust litigation achievement in economics.
According to the AAI, “qualified nominations must relate to antitrust-focused litigation that was (a) initiated in or appealed in any U.S. state or federal court and (b) resulted (whether or not subject to appeal) in a final judgment, verdict, dismissal, conviction, injunction, order, or settlement between July 1 2013 and June 30, 2014.”
The award for outstanding antitrust litigation achievement in private practice is limited to private civil actions, and nominees will be judged on (1) the benefit realized by the client, consumers, or class and (2) the positive development of antitrust policy. The award for a young lawyer—individual practitioners below the age of 40 years or admitted to practice for 10 or less years—is also limited to private civil actions, and nominees will be judged on (1) the individual’s contribution to the case; (2) the benefit realized by the client, consumers, or class; and (3) the positive development of antitrust policy. Finally, nominees for the economics award will be judged on (1) contribution to the development of antitrust-related economic methodology, analysis, and/or presentation and (2) the positive development of antitrust policy.
Entries must be submitted by September 10, 2014, and the awards will take place at a gala dinner on December 2, 2014. The judging committee is comprised of 15 individuals from various law firms, law schools, and the California Department of Justice Antitrust Section.
