The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) announced the winners of its Antitrust Enforcement Awards, which was held on November 18. The awards honor litigation achievements across three categories, including Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Private Practice, Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics, and Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer.
The Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Private Law Practice award was given to four firms for their work on the O’Bannon v. NCAA case, including: (1) Michael Hausfeld and the Hausfeld team; (2) William Isaacson (Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP); (3) Renae Steiner (Heins Mills & Olson, P.L.C.); and (4) Seth Rosenthal (Venable LLP). These attorneys “demonstrated that injunctive relief can be just as powerful a tool as treble damages (if not more so) in enforcing the antitrust laws,” the AAI stated.
Professor Roger Noll was honored with the Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics award, also for work completed in the O’Bannon v. NCAA case.
Finally, the Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement Award by a Young Lawyer was given to Michelle L. Looby (Gustafson Gluek PLLC) for her work in Precision Associations, Inc. v. Panalpina World Transport Holding Ltd. According to the AAI, “Looby played a key role in representing a class of purchasers of freight forwarding services who alleged that defendant freight forwarders fixed prices on various fees and surcharges.”
