President Barack Obama announced his intent yesterday to re-nominate Edith Ramirez as the FTC’s Chairwoman.
Chairwoman Ramirez was originally sworn in as an FTC Commissioner in April 2010. She was later nominated by President Obama to serve as the agency’s Chairwoman in March 2013. As Chairwoman, Ramirez has focused on consumer protection matters, promoting competition in the technology and health care sectors, and working to safeguard consumer privacy and protect vulnerable communities from deceptive and unfair practices. During her tenure, the FTC has filed more than 200 consumer protection and competition-related enforcement actions and has recovered more than $1 billion in redress for consumers across the country.
Prior to joining the FTC, Ramirez served as a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP’s Los Angeles office. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her law degree from Harvard Law School, according to the President’s announcement.
