    By Greg Hammond, J.D.

The FTC is seeking comments on its proposal to extend its Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) clearance for information collection requirements regarding the Commission’s administrative activities. The Commission’s clearance expires February 28, 2015, and it seeks to extend its PRA clearance for an additional three years (Notice, 79 FR 68245, November 14, 2014).

The Commission’s administrative activities clearance includes: (1) applications to the FTC, including applications and notices contained in the Commission’s Rules of Practice; (2) the Commission’s consumer complaint systems, including the consumer response center and complaints concerning fraud, the National Do Not Call Registry, identity theft, and surveys; and (3) Commission program evaluation activities, including review of divestiture orders and review of the competition advocacy program.

Specifically, the Commission is seeking comments on: (1) whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information will have practical utility; (2) the accuracy of the agency’s estimate of the burden of the proposed collection of information, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used; (3) ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and (4) ways to minimize the burden of the collection of information on those who are to respond.

Comments must be received on or before January 13, 2015. They may be submitted online, or mailed to: Federal Trade Commission, Office of the Secretary, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Suite CC-5610 (Annex J), Washington, D.C. 20580.
