Senators John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D., W.Va.) and Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) released statements concerning an American Medical Association (AMA) call for a temporary ban on marketing energy drinks to children and teens.

Following the AMA’s endorsement of a temporary ban on marketing energy drinks to young children, Senator Rockefeller sent letters to four energy drink companies in order to take a close look at their marketing practices. “Once again, top public health experts are raising concerns about children and young adults consuming energy drinks,” said Rockefeller.

“Teenagers are aggressively targeted by energy drink companies, despite a growing body of scientific evidence that raises serious questions about the safety of these products,” said Blumenthal in his statement noting that he has been working on bringing more publicity to the issue.
