The acquisition of industrial minerals firm S&B Group of Greece by Imerys S.A. of France has been approved by the European Commission, it was announced (Case number M.7456).

Both S&B Group and Imerys are engaged in the extraction of minerals used in industrial applications, including perlite, wollastonite, and continuous casting fluxes.

The EC particularly investigated perlite, since Imerys principally sells expanded perlite for filtration and S&B sells unexpanded ore for horticulture and construction/industrial applications. The Commission found that the parties would continue to compete with other significant suppliers of perlite. It further found that in most of the markets there are no significant overlaps between the companies' sales for the respective applications.

    Companies: S&B Group; Imerys S.A.
