In an effort to address potential regulatory concerns over Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV’s more than $103 billion proposed acquisition of SABMiller plc, AB InBev is considering the sale of various SABMiller European premium brands.
In particular, AB InBev is exploring the sale of SABMiller’s Peroni and Grolsch brand families, as well as the U.K.-based Meantime. Potential purchasers will be contacted shortly, but any sale would be conditioned upon the acquisition’s closing.
Meanwhile, in the United States, the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights will be holding a hearing on December 8 on the proposed merger. The hearing, entitled “Ensuring Competition Remains on Tap: The AB InBev/SABMiller merger and the State of Competition in the Beer Industry,” will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
