Global Daily Tax News, France Consults On Music Streaming Tax Guidelines, (Jul 15, 2024)
The French Government has released draft guidelines on rules governing the tax on music streaming for consultation until August 19, 2024.
Legislative provisions for the introduction of the 1.2 percent music streaming tax took effect on January 1, 2024. Revenue from the levy is used to boost funding for French music productions.
The levy is charged on revenues received by streaming services providers from paid subscriptions and advertising services, on revenue exceeding EUR20m.
The proposed guidelines, available only in French, explain how the tax is to be administered, including its scope; tax calculation matters; liability; declaration and payment obligations; and penalties for non-compliance.
